Our children have supported us with their faith and prayers, letters and surprise packages, pictures, emails and Skype camera calls where we became bonded to the little ones who hardly knew us when we left. Our mission was a great experience which has tied us even closer to our Asian brothers and sisters.

Upon returning home, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a beautiful orchid plant from President and Sister Bishop that has bloomed for months. The tender mercies from the Lord on our mission and actual miracles has grown our faith and enriched our marriage.

We have seen miracles in lives being changed by those who would make the effort to "experiment" on the "word" and genuinely study the teachings of the Book of Mormon. It is a precious record of God's dealing with His children on the American continent and as a companion to the Bible which we dearly love, clarifies many difficult to understand teachings in that ancient record. FRIENDSHIP - A PRICELESS TREASURE
The Lord has proclaimed in the scriptures that if we pay an honest tithe, not robbing God who has given us all, he “will open the windows of heaven, and pour out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” [3 Nephi 24:8, 10 and Malachi 3:10] Of course, while the Lord prospers those who keep His commandments and sometimes in material ways, “windows” seem to be a symbol of light, suggesting the spiritual blessings that come through obedience.

These last few weeks we have been showered with so much love: visits from friends, hugs, gifts, dinners, kind thoughts, and so forth, that it almost seems more than we can receive and we think of the “windows of heaven” being opened and showering down blessings. We have just had to turn down 3 lunch/dinner invitations due to lack of time. Friendship is one of those blessings that means so much to us and makes us sad to be leaving Taiwan. If it weren’t for our wonderful family back home we’d just have to consider staying!

Our Missionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12898536363281511390noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827921927807905385.post-33829360825791913702011-04-10T13:00:00.000-06:002011-04-10T13:00:38.540-06:00We Live to Die and Die to Live - a Joyful Message
Missionaries helping clean cemeteryMissionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints gather at a huge cemetery in Taichung, Taiwan to give service and participate in the Qing Ming tomb sweeping festival. This is an annual event and LDS missionaries give service at many cemeteries throughout much of Taiwan. The city leaders and many families were very appreciative of the four hours of service that we gave and the city provided a lunch for us when we finished our work.
In the background many abandonded tombs, burial plots, are in disrepair because there is no one around, or perhaps still living, to care for the final resting place of family members.

As we saw the numerous abandoned tombs, we felt sad that no one was there to remember the deceased. But we know for a surety that our Heavenly Father is aware of them and that their spirits and bodies will be reunited in the resurrection because Jesus Christ overcame death. Every living soul will receive this free gift from the Lord, and as prophesied in Isaiah 25:8 -He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces. . Our Heavenly Father, who notices even the tiniest sparrow, loves all His children and will not forget even one. A little children's song tells the whole story:

Did Jesus really live again? Yes when the third day came,

He wakened and He left the tomb, He called Mary's name.

Did Jesus walk with those He loved? Yes people touched His feet,

And of the fish and honeycomb, He did truly eat.

And there were nailprints in His hands and a spear wound in His side,

Did Jesus really live again, after He had died? Oh yes, and so shall I.

There were over 500 witnesses to the resurrection!

Our Missionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12898536363281511390noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827921927807905385.post-50288094907347828762011-04-10T12:59:00.000-06:002011-04-10T12:59:53.779-06:00MISSIONARIES GIVING SERVICE Qing Ming Festival in Taichung
Sister Greene with a delightful group of Sisters who love to give service.

The Book of Mormon teaches us so much about the resurrection. We are so grateful for this knowledge in this sacred book of scripture. The Son of God will come to redeem his people, and shall suffer and die to atone for their sins; and shall rise again from the dead, which shall bring to pass the resurrection, that all men shall stand before him, to be judged at the last day, according to their works. Alma 33:22 How fitting to have the opportunity to serve our Taiwanese brothers and sisters at a time when the whole world of Christendom will soon be celebrating Easter, when Christ rose from the tomb and saved all mankind from everlasting death!
The small pigeon eggs are in the yellow basket and after they are cracked and placed in the cooking cups they are turned over with a special spoon after they have cooked on one side for about a minute. The cooked eggs are only about one bite each. I don't think that they would be a hit in America.

Our Missionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12898536363281511390noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827921927807905385.post-6236931436055785372011-02-17T16:06:00.002-07:002011-02-17T16:26:06.018-07:00CHINESE NEW YEAR HIGHLIGHTSWhat a wonderful privilege it was to be invited to speak to our young single missionaries at our zone conferences on the subject of how mission experiences can strengthen future relationships during the rest of their lives, including those in marriage. Our missionaries do not choose their many companions and so have the opportunity and challenge to learn to love each one through language, cultural and personality differences. We see bonds of friendship in these young missionaries that can last forever. Elder Greene taught the things that are most important to bring home from missions, especially increased faith and testimony.

While our Chinese New Year's week was filled with warm memories of enjoying the companionship of our President and his wife, visiting a new convert's extended family and seeing beautiful new places on this island, one of the most memorable times occurred at the end of the week. We were privileged to meet with a Taiwanese family who were totally unacquainted with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and after a lovely dinner by our kind hosts, we had the opportunity to teach Gospel principles. The joy felt in our hearts to testify of what we do know, through the Holy Spirit, is indescribable. And for most of us, that still small voice speaks to our mind and heart, not in the wind, earthquake or fire as Elijah describes it in the Bible (1 Kings 19:11-12).

The Book of Mormon, another Testament of Jesus Christ, teaches how to find real truth and it is not dependent on the opinion of any man (Moroni 10:4) but by direct revelation from God. It was wonderful to testify to a family who we think had no idea that prayer is a two way communication with a Heavenly Father; that He loves us and will answer our prayers offered in faith and in the name of His son, Jesus Christ, the Mediator. We know God answers prayers for He has answered our pleadings. The father, in his mid-fifties, was taught how to pray and then he offered a simple and heart-felt prayer for the first time in his life. This family can discover the truth of the restored Gospel as they study the Book of Mormon, a companion to the Bible, and pray to know if it is true.

On Finding Truth - "For behold, the spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for everything which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God." After attending and speaking to about 85 missionaries at a missionary zone conference in Kaohsiung we traveled to Tainan and spent two days celebrating New Years with a wonderful convert and his extended family, many of whom were nonmembers. We helped teach Brother Lin the gospel a few months earlier and, as mentioned in an earlier post, he was finally baptized. His wife had patiently waited for 27 years for him to be baptized. At one of the sites they insisted that I put on a traditional Emperor's robe for some pictures.
Sister and Elder Greene with Brother Lin's five grandchildren from his son and his daughter's marriages.

Taken on the ship's bow of one of two destroyers given by the United States to China and later brought to Taiwan by Chaing Kai Shek in 1949.
